Description

SNAP or “food stamp” hearings provide due process opportunities to parties following application denial, case closures, or disagreements with the amount of food stamp benefits granted. Most applicants or recipients represent themselves and may have difficulties in articulating legal arguments. Generally, they just want their food stamps and are upset if they don’t get them. Issues that often arise involve verification, missed appointments, and able-bodied adults without dependent (ABAWD). Also common, though less frequent, are “Sovereign Citizen” issues. This session provides an overview of such issues that often arise such hearings in a high volume setting.
