Name
8A Ethics: Judicial Demeanor (M)
Description

Headlines and bar association journals across the nation report on judges who were disciplined or forced to leave their positions for inappropriate demeanor. But what demeanor is appropriate? What does “judicial demeanor” entail? How do adjudicators maintain the proper demeanor when faced with warring parties and contentious counsel? Ethics codes and canons of professional conduct require us to deport ourselves properly despite what others may do. This session provides a practical look at keeping a cordial, dignified temperament, instruction on how to do so, and reviews ethics canons requiring our demeanor to be “judicial.”
